The three OS examples you give are all at varying stages of completeness: Movitz is just a text-mode Lisp prompt; HURD has been in development for over 20 years and still hasn't had a stable release; Plan 9 has had multiple commercial relea

My netbook is great for playing nethack in class, but it's not great for coding. Mostly because I code in Acme, which depends thoroughly on a good 3-button mouse; the netbook's two button one-bar thing doesn't cut the muster. And of course

Damn, I typed a big long thing, then hit the wrong key combo and zapped it all. Is that irony? Anyway, the gist of what I wanted to say is that when you use vim, you do a lot of thinking about how you're going to position the cursor or exac

Thank you. Adding ints to pointers--it's not just a good idea, it's the law! Because, in the end, it's all adding offsets to pointers.

When I took pre-calc, it was a very basic and slow build-up to integrals and derivatives, IIRC. We had already had two classes in algebra, one in geometry, and one in functions, statistics, and trigonometry.

A 1.8 GHz machine should be able to play a low-resolution video without stuttering or lagging. Yet every time I visit Youtube on my admittedly rather old computer, it slows to a damn crawl. You know what could play similar resolution videos

Ignore the reference to Wily in the other post; that is an ancient and crappy copy. Plan9Port http://swtch.com/plan9port/ has Acme, along with many other useful Plan 9 tools. Acme-SAC http://www.caerwyn.com/acme/ is a standalone bundle
