I have just showed up at the local AT&T store and asked for a prepaid SIM. Walked out 10 minutes later with a re-fillable month-to-month account that I used for testing.

There are reasons to be more comfortable with them using a punch card system: * All their "software" (ha!) is stored in physical form, on a shelf, as a board full of wires--hard to mistakenly delete it or lose the registration key. * Their

Not that it's very hard to fix a mangled card--if it's torn, you just look at it and type up a new copy. It's only 80 characters max.

When I heard about this rule change, I checked all my knives. Out of the 6 non-kitchen knives I have, not a single one of them is short enough to go on the plane. Disappointing. Even my little Buck folder, the best little utility knife, is

The existing San Franciscans seem to be pretty effective NIMBY-ites too... and for a city that seems so proud of being progressive, they can be pretty damn reactionary about changing anything.

I like notmuch with the Emacs notmuch client, because it'll work fine when I only have a terminal available, but when I run Emacs+X11, it'll also display images inline and has some decent mouse support.

Guitar tabs are simple and easy to learn, IF you're playing a song you already know. Most tabs I've seen just tell you which fingers to press down and which strings to hit, often excluding time signature, note duration, note intensity, rest

It's not a sustained reaction. It's just a bunch of short fusion reactions, one after another. We've been capable of short, uncontrolled fusion reactions for decades--it's just that, being bombs, we didn't have much luck generating electric

Plutonium ain't easy, so you'd probably want to ship pre-made pits into orbit (we've got plenty already made), preferably one at a time so we don't get a big critical mass of plutonium sitting in a desert in case the rocket crashes.

The NIMBYs are pretty terrible. The best part is how you won't see a single solitary wind turbine in the "bay area" proper, but as soon as you start heading up Altamont on I-580, BAM everywhere. It's ok though, it's just the central valley
