But that’s not a useful comparison, because you can’t run a Xeon at 2.95W. There is a floor wattage that the processor simply cannot go below.

The craziest thing is how close they get at 3W . That's the part that's staggering. What could Apple do with, say, laptop thermals? Desktop thermals? The mind creeps closer to boggling.

I must also be missing something because I never explicitly index my mail. I fetch it with mbsync every two minutes and then use mu4e to read it and new mail shows up as one would expect. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do this. It's simple enough to install homebrew, to, say, $HOME/.homebrew. I haven't had any problems with this approach, but then, I don't use Ruby, and if I did I wouldn't use homebrew to manage it.

For an engineer not to be actively looking, you have to believe that Twitter will be around for the foreseeable future. That seems like a sucker's bet, to me.

Yeah, I don't know if it's mentioned in the docs. I had written my own version before I found it.

I use brew leaves instead of brew list for this sort of thing; as I usually don't care about the constituent transitive dependencies, only the final results.

You became conditioned to the state of the system. You would save before known problematic operations; you would have comprehensive backups. You adapted to the misfeatures of the underlying software. It's not much different, from a UX

I don't want to depend on upstream for things that may change faster; not everyone uses debian derivatives; system installation means that everything on the box gets the new versions. That's three good reasons not to use the syste

I have a TK1; it's perfectly usable as a desktop machine. I don't use it because I don't like Ubuntu and the project I was using it for has finished, but plug a SSD into it and it works a treat.

I can see the argument for terseness in source, particularly in domains where the terseness in code reflects well-understood shorthand in the actual problem space. But stuff like that makes me itch, to be honest.
