I've been living on a Retina MBP, which has a comparably 4x resolution, and I've come to exactly the opposite conclusion: if you work with text, you need a super-dense screen ASAP. I don't know how Windows handles it, but i

30hz is not to me usable; nor is 39", and I'm used to Apple's build and picture quality, so I guess I should've prefaced my post with "IMHO."

More to the point, if I'm asking you in an interview how to build a DOM parser, take it as given that, if you get the job, and we need a DOM parser, you will be actively encouraged to go use a library rather than build from scratch

There's some price discrimination going on here, yes, but keep in mind that a) the PQ on that Seiki will be horrible; 2) at 39" it's way too large; and iii) as you note, it does not have a useful way to get a signal into it.

It seems more to me to be an academic exercise in compiler complexity that has been wrapped in a shell of "lookit! Java++" as a play for industry acceptance. I haven't been working with it for long, but I feel that there'

Yeah, I think you can open your answer with, "well, I'd use libfoo, because there are a bunch of hairy edge cases", but then follow on immediately with a toy implementation to show you understand the problem domain. There&#

The thing is, Mobile Safari and the Chrome on Android are perfectly good web browsers , and can render web pages pretty much exactly as can a desktop browser. Misfeatures like this are the result of pathetic platform envy. Yes, native appl

I personally think that Google does things like this because they can; they are not under money pressure (yet?) to have to really try to extract maximum value from every bit served or watt consumed, and can thus spend energy on initiatives

I think the problem is that the terrible shell semantics are inextricable from the larger semantics of using Unix. So you could replace sh with something less dumb-stupid, but you'd still be interacting with the garbage that is the she

As the child of anthropologists, I think there's a lot of room for cultural analysis of technologies. Languages, for instance, have cultures as well as affordances, and a careful comparative analysis would be really interesting.
