I love the Herzfeld version because of how Gates is portrayed, really.

It was the best way to run Flash programs without installing Flash system-wide.

The only reason I kept Chrome around is because I occasionally wanted to watch Youtube videos that were Flash only. I wasn't going to install Flash system-wide, so I was grateful for Google's approach of maintaining a private Flas

I try to sleep in three hour chunks; I find that that's my natural cycle, so six hours is better for me than 7.5. I usually go to sleep around 10 and wake up around 5.

Well, then, you switch to Comcast/Verizon/&c. if these issues are important to you. Big ISP will be forced to compete for your business, rather than buying your acquiescence with franchise agreements and big steak dinners at y

It seems to me that the right level for government to be involved in these sorts of questions is the municipality itself, rather than running back to Federal statute. Which is, again, orthogonal to preventing Verizon-owned statehouses from

They can do this now. Municipal ownership of some of the pipes isn't going to stop what is essentially an orthogonal fight from happening at a higher level.

The problem is that you have an asymmetry in resources between e.g. local officials who might want to stand up a fiber network and a company the size of Verizon, who very badly do not want this to happen. You need countervailing size, and i

Who cares? The Feds here are not in the business of bandwidth provision; they're acting to counterbalance the elephantine mass of Comcast by preventing them from overpowering municipal politics.

Really, he's calling for the FCC to prevent rent-seeking by local ISP monopolies by allowing the option of municipal networks. It's a really good idea; you can tell because of how stridently Comcast/Verizon/AT&T oppo

I'm not 100% certain you can point to government regulation as the sole or even the primary driver of car mass increases. Much of that is market driven. That said, I loved my twin-turbo BMW, but much of that was the inline-six.

I think what would be interesting is not in bringing the web to Emacs but rather Emacs to the web; a web browser that exposed everything right down to the rendering primitives in a decent (well, better than elisp or Javascript) language, al

Right, you shouldn't have to switch operating systems to get the benefits. It seems perfectly reasonable to expect the display subsystem of your preferred OS to support HiDPI mode, however it chooses to do so.
