Well, right then, let's all enjoy our Two Minutes Hate. The claims are hardly specific or verifiable, for what it's worth, and I don't think Anthony sees it as his job to determine what "actually happened." What "actually happened" is incr

'A single article, quoting sources, and even giving the founder a chance to respond right in the article itself, is not "internet vigilantism".' Yes, it is. This isn't meticulously researched. This is not a 60 Minutes exposé. Did Anthony

Thank you for illustrating my point, earl. The damage is done, and the people in this thread are acting like Romans chanting for gladiatorial blood. In short: vulgar.

Well, at least you admit your interest in this article is essentially selfish. You like it because you learned something. What did you learn, exactly? Never mind than Andrew had no say in whether this article should go to press. He may o

Internet-scale vigilantism has an awful side effect: it can never be entirely walked back. The damage has been done and the crowd is happy. They have their circus.

What a vulgar article. I don't know Andrew Hsu and from the sound of it, neither did Anthony Ha or anyone who commented on it (there, or here). Airy Labs may be poorly run. There are dozens of small, well-funded startups that are poorly r

All but the most blatant examples of sexism (and racism -- "food stamp President" anyone?) are like this. At worst they seem insensitive, at least in isolation. That's why it's so easy to talk about getting a thicker skin, etc. I know thi

Nice! Yes, when other people in this thread -- and let's be honest, men -- play the thought experiment where the roles are reverse and it's the wife sitting in the audience, they don't see what's so offensive. "I wouldn't be offended!" the

I'd encourage this for a thought experiment. Take a step back. Bottle your immediate reaction to this article. Starting asking yourself a few questions. Why did the author react this way to the introduction? Why do so many people in the

I see this shit all the time, and most men don't even realize they're doing it. Lots of startups quickly converge to a culture that's little better than a frat house. If you think this is much ado about nothing, consider this: the subtle se

Kaitlyn learned Python to build this as a Valentine's Day present for her boyfriend, Mike Krieger, one of the co-founders of Instagram.

Lack of empathy. Lack of appreciation for what is obviously an elegant, more thoughtful design across the board. "Why do you need Dropbox? You can just use rsync and some bash scripts."

Nobody does it that way because you can't do it that way. I and most people I know either use two hands, or grab the phone while holding the dock in place with one finger. This is an absolutely fantastic, thoughtful design.

Give credit where credit is due. Zynga would never in a million years do this. Facebook probably wouldn't, either. Dave's message is straightforward and sincere.

Fine. Express the homological proof of the Brouwer fixed-point theorem on a computer. Ideally in a way that is easily understood by both a computer and a mathematician. Bonus points if it can be used as a teaching tool, too, so that a (s

You're asking people to do math in a non-mathy way. How would you feel if schools insisted, for the purposes of learning, that all programs be written out by hand in plain English? Or, heck, just think of how annoyed some developers get wh

1. The standard vesting arrangement is four years with a one-year cliff. This means 25% of your stock (as a founder) vests at the end of the first year, and the remainder vests month-to-month for the next three. In your scenario it sounds
