The words "evidence" and "compete" have special meanings inside Microsoft: As I understand it, "evidence" is proof that your work was received well by the community you are targeting. Rather than sales figures, "evidence" is the currency of

People inside Microsoft are working on changing the reality. Things are changing, but change is happening slowly.

You're right. Those are Microsoft internal jargon. "compete": Term used for "not Microsoft" (I came from "compete") "v- team": This position will have contractors working for them. Contractors working for Microsoft have usernames in the for

Interesting. Do you have any suggestions for a better DNS server to use?

Really? It should support SRV records. Can you give me an example to help me track down the bug?

Hmm, I guess I was being overzealous with my validation. Thanks for the feedback. I'll fix it when I get home tonight.

So yeah, after I make some changes to eventdns, you'll be able to use that to host DNS from a text file. The path to the files and format will be the same as what dig.jsondns.org returns.

Setup, configuration, and maintenance of DNS servers isn't simple. They need to run as root on a server with a static IP. Hosted DNS solutions cost money, don't always support all record types, and rarely have programmatic interfaces. In sh

Yes they do: http://github.com/jpf/jsondns/blob/master/jsondns.rb#L66 HTTP Status Codes also map pretty nicely to DNS RCODEs.

These results are cached on my end and also by the server I'm querying (Google Public DNS). Non-cached (non recursive) queries are part of the standard that I'm coding towards. I just haven't implemented them yet.

Feel free to use http://dig.jsondns.org in your applications. I'm glad it's useful! I just can't make any guarantees regarding response time or uptime. If you need guarantees for either of those, you can run the service yourself, the code

Of course! I'm not looking to replace DNS, just make it easier to use.

This is part of a domain name registration service that I'm writing with Jeff Lindsay. It's also part of a larger project to make it trivial to work with DNS from "the web". Soon your web server will also be a DNS server.

An old coworker of mine wanted to use a tap like this to set up a secondary tamper-resistant syslog server alongside our central syslog server. The secondary syslog server would only be connected to the "receive" pair of the primary syslog

I'm totally taken with Fossil: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fossil_(file_system) - which versions the filesystem. Does Plan 9 cover any of the other things he discusses?

Don't forget that you can use lsof to undelete files (provided that at least one process still has the file open): http://www.linux.com/archive/articles/58142

I've already started to have conversations inside Microsoft about why startups in the Silicon Valley don't want (or need) to use Microsoft products.

I was not hired to replace Don Dodge. I was hired because the person who previously held my role moved internally. I actually don't know much about Don Dodge - I haven't met him yet. All that I know is that he is well liked and respected. I

Legal compliance is VERY important at Microsoft, so much so that we aren't supposed to even read Open Source source code.
