I don't think the issue is as much technical as it is about the nature of the community. digg, reddit, hacker news, etc. all have similar features, but quite different communities. these communities are generally molded by where they exist

I agree they are cool, but why not just use a similar solution that does the same thing. Require a couple second server wait time in repeated requests from the same IP. Even if the spammers had over 1000 IPs (and most don't) this would stil

I'm inclined to agree, currently I have ssh setup on my home machine and use dyndns which is free and pretty simple. Setting up a server would be equally simple for the technically inclined.
