Snapdragon 8x5 CPUs have been fast enough for a while now, and you wouldn't notice a difference as long as you run a decent flavor of Android. However you can notice a faster screen refresh rate, and high end Android wins there. I woul

This is as much a ringing endorsement of AMD Ryzen as it is of the M1. The 15W 4800U is just as impressive as the M1, and the performance per watt gap seems small enough to bridge with AMDs upcoming 5nm switch.

The Leica Q2 sells for $5000 dollars - I'm guessing it's (or was until Covid hit) selling decently. There would be many who'd prefer a light medium format with fixed lens instead of the Q2 if it's under 7K or 8K. It'

If you switch the OS to Windows DirectX: OnScreen Aztec High Tier gives you 54fps on the M1, vs 106fps on the 1050Ti. Normal tier is capped at 60fps for OSX while Windows goes up to 156fps. That's a better comparison since it represent

I know you said this sarcastically. The custom GPU is going to be a huge roadblock to get anything graphical to render. Probably never going to happen. Add: actually never say never. Consoles with custom GPUs have been very successfully emu

But did the test run long enough to need the fan, and what was the ambient temperature? The fanless Intel Core-M CPUs could post excellent benchmark scores (for its time). But if you give it a lengthy compile task, it'll slow down dram

People should stop cherry picking benchmarks (like SPECint2006) when comparing CPUs. And many seem to be misreading Anandtech's recent comparison as - Wow look M1 is almost as fast as a 5950X. Except that it's simply impossible. W

YAMLs biggest advantage over JSON: records can be appended (at the end of an existing file). Which you can't do with JSON objects, arrays etc because of the closing bracket at the end.

I agree. IMHO Microsoft made a rather poor choice earlier by pushing Mono-based Ahead-of-time (AOT) compilation - when they should have thrown their weight behind CoreRT (now called native AOT). It looks like it's moving in the right d

Yeah but that's not a realistic usecase for most users/developers. I haven't measured if Ox is faster or slower, but for me startup time and ability to quickly open files under 10MB are more important.

The fastest .Net based library scores a 58%, while a framework based on Go scores 52%. The weights are arbitrary, so can't infer a lot from the 6% delta between .Net and Go - except that they compare favorably with each other in terms

There are many reasons why ORMs work better than it did earlier. For one, people prefer simpler database schema these days - and what used to be larger monolithic apps are often broken into micro services. Earlier, you'd have one big d

I read it as: sometimes an app+database is the best solution to the problem, and not APIs from a cloud storage provider. That probably applies to most small web apps and blogs, which is where people mostly use WordPress.
