Batching the C calls means that you all lookups are delayed by other lookups. This isn't very good for concurrency especially since it's reliant on network traffic. If you had a few lookups in the queue, you could end up having goroutines w

All I/O is evented I/O. It's just that with modern I/O requirements it's too expensive to use a whole thread to wait for the event.

It's likely this is related to DNS lookups. Doing a lookup on a modern operating system requires calling in to some C library. The call in to the C code means that the thread can no longer be used to schedule goroutines, the runtime doesn't

You might find that the blocking style of Go networking code is far less mind bending than using twisted.

It's easy to forget that the black magic that runs C is commonly confused with just being an operating system.

The bad parts of Go are mostly the tradeoffs you have to make for a systems programming language. They have benefits but also some unfortunate downsides. Some are just implementation details that will get solved over time. * integers overfl

The strategy the allocator uses is to reserve a large contiguous block of address space(not memory) on start up and then allocate actual memory from that block. On 32bit this is around 512MB, on 64bit it's something like 16TB. This makes a

Apparently there is a generics prototype in the works, it was too much of a big change for Go1. It will probably be in Go2.

As with everything, it depends. If you have large data structures then the overhead of a vector's over-allocation and eventual copying (possibly multiple times) might be an issue.

I like to sit in cafes and code. It's not as socially isolating and the distractions are easy to block out because they are random and unimportant to me. Distractions at home or the office are much more difficult to ignore.

Chrome did this and it's problematic. When a user copies a url they are either required to add the http:// themselves, or firefox could do what chrome did and automatically add the http:// to the url when you copy it. This is a problem

This web orientated world is build on C. The interpreters, databases, servers are mostly written in C. The web has meant that companies now have access to more data then they can process so high performance code is becoming more important.

The getter/setter lines in PHP on slide 9 is the code of a ruby dev that doesn't know PHP. You can easily reduce all those lines to a three line _call() method.
