Send a dummy event and see if you get an ACK in response. Depends on the library you're using.

You can easily multiplex data over one connection/event stream. You can design your app so that it only uses one eventstream for all events it needs to receive.

Only if you distribute the binary/source of the GPLd library. You may build a non-GPL program that dynamically links with a GPL library and freely distribute it. As long as your program does not contain copyrightable code, you do not h

I really dislike that you can no longer create a home page that opens on a new tab in firefox. You can still do that on mobile browsers, for example kiwi browser. I have a homepage [0] with large links for resources I frequently visit and I

You'd be surprised how many cheap tenda wifi "access points" sold right now for 15€ still don't support v6, even though access points shouldn't mess with anything above L2.

I guess one could choose between v4 or v6 but not both at the same time (dual stack). My mobile ISP also does it this way -- you either use IPv4 only on mobile data or IPv6 only with NAT64 and DNS64 to reach v4 hosts.

For using google without it's UI, you can use SearXNG: https://github.com/searxng/searxng ... or this little PHP script I made: http://ni.4a.si./sijanec/r/tree/prog/sear.php

It would be pretty useful if we could somehow convince birds to relay our messages using birdsongs -- just use a speaker to transmit a message, encoded in birdsong with some special preamble header, and it will get broadcast or unicast to t

I panicked a little when I heard the news as I run a cupsd open on the Internet. But as it turns out, the issue is misrepresented in headlines, just like here. This is not an issue in the core cupsd, but in a separate package/component

Where I live, you can replace an ONT easily. GPON in my small country is only secured with the ONT serial number and a static well known password. From a security perspective, that's perfectly fine. No one is going to hack their own ne

Doesn't getaddrinfo respect /etc/resolv.conf? So LittleSnitch should install itself there if it wants to be used by getaddrinfo. Besides, apps can always make direct lookups to a resolver of their choice, bypassing any resolv

I actually meant DNS prefetching, not HTTP prefetching. I don't think browsers will prefetch (make HTTP GET requests before they are clicked) links by default (maybe slack does to get metadata), but they quite often prefetch the DNS ho

Wouldn't it be better to put "confetti" -- the API key as part of the domain name? That way, the key would be leaked without any required clicks due to the DNS prefetching by the browser.
