Homeless people need a LOT more than a house. Every single one has their own story and circumstances. From what I have read about people who have made their way out of homelessness at my local Rescue Mission, it was a multistep, and long, r

I use dspam. It seems like an abandoned project, but it still works. I looked at rspam, but I'm not a fan of the way the lists cost money as soon as you want to make money. Sure, right now, I'm only hosting personal email, but who

I've been running mine for years. I have my spf and opendkim records setup. That seems to have been enough. There are a couple places that I've had issues with, but most seem to work just fine.

I live in a 2 bedroom apartment in Oregon. Rent went up by close to 11% when I renewed my lease. Management changed 2 or 3 years ago as well. End result is that the quality of life has been going down. Management complained about the color

It also could be the thing that lets them find a job and avoid financial ruin. Public transit sometimes works, but it almost always increases how long it takes to get somewhere. If I was struggling to make ends meet by working two jobs and

Not sure how it would work with iOS, but keeweb (or keepass) .kdbx files sync really well via syncthing. Even to my mobile devices.

I somewhat share your concerns. Mozilla has been pretty intolerant in the past (firing someone due to personal political views.) That said, I really can't see anything gaining traction unless it's centralized. There is no decentra

Never heard of Beaker before. A quick skim of their site makes me interested. Thanks for sharing about it. :)

Agreed, that is a large issue. You likely would need to limit by geographical region for a while.

So, to address some of the comments referencing Brave, Flattr, and other similar sites, as far as I know, those are all for profit entities. My idea would be a non-profit. Initially they'd need to be bank rolled by someone, but I'

For a long time I've thought that we need a browser based universal tip jar. Some way that lets me read a blog post, and then tip the site with however much I want. 1 cent, 25 cents, 1 dollar, 200 dollars, any amount. From my understan

Two ideas come to mind. First, make the engine recommend a few videos that it thinks you probably won't watch. That could help break up the echo chamber effect. Second, allow users to blacklist, or whitelist, different kinds of content

I like seeing a, hopefully, solid OSS implementation of security for ES. I understand the companies need to make money and pay developers, but I've never been very comfortable with them keeping the security features out of the OSS vers

Has anyone run across something that would work at the individual home level? A machine that sorts and cleans the plastic into small bales in your garage. Maybe something similar for paper and aluminum?

When I worked at Safeway or WalMart here in OR, the can returns were nightmares. Extremely dirty, they'd fill up fast, and customers were always in a bad mood when they had to wait for me to get the machines working again. Oh, yeah, th

This might have already been said, but whatever happened to ads based on the content of the page you are on? If I'm reading an article about manufactured homes, an ad linking to a manufactured home seller could be actually useful. Gran

You could try Luminar 2018. Library management is coming, and it's developing tools are (IMO) better than lightroom. It's also very reasonably priced. That plus an Ubuntu vm for importing via shotwell is what I use.

I haven't looked into Jenkin's in a couple years, so I'm not sure. My experience as the sysadmin of our Jenkin's server was decidedly negative. I was pretty happy when I was able to move to GitLab-CI instead of Jenkin&#x

My favorite part of GitLab is the .gitlab-ci.yml and gitlab-runner workflow. My least favorite is how much RAM is required to run GitLab. You can't host your own on a $5 DigitalOcean vps. Does anyone know of any work being done on gite

Have you found any researched reports on Android vs. iOS market share? That's where I'd start if I were you. I, personally, would never choose to only focus on iOS. Apple's walled garden seems extremely hostile to me. If you

Isn't signing supposed to solve some of that? You sign the binaries you host on your site, and the OS checks to make sure the signature is valid. (Maybe against a non-profit "Let's Sign".) If it's a valid signature,

A couple thoughts. If your configuration file is so long it's unreadable in YAML, then maybe you need to break it up into more than one file? I can't imagine any syntax would be easy to read once you reach more than 100 or so line
