Annotations in Java cannot inherit from other annotations. This has been known for a long time: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1624084/why-is-not-possib... Not sure why it is a surprise to the author.

If database/redis is too heavy and plain json too light then one could use something like Strata [1]. It stores json documents on disk using a b-tree. [1] http://bigeasy.github.io/strata/

This reminds me a lot of the way Twitter and Netflix migrated from large monolithic applications to microservices. At Twitter they used Finagle for service discovery and RPC calls. The complication arising from splitting into microservices
