When my wife worked retail (20+ years ago), she had to verify the name on the card with the name on the machine with the name on their ID. They caught a decent number where the machine had a different name pop up than the card showed. And W

I hate slipper slope arguments, but the march to tyranny is a very shallow slope of ice. Tomorrow it's "move 100 miles." Next year it's "pay $100 for the exit toll." In 2030 it's "we only allow 100 pe

Same here. I'm in the US. I actually thought Credit/Debit cards had to have YOUR "full" name on them. My wife and I share MANY accounts, and none of our cards have a "shared" name on it.

I think that is a different market than the market for dumb tractors. There might be some overlap, but I doubt the people who want to fix their own tractors are different than the corporations that are tracking 100 tractors across hundreds&

I keep hearing both sides of this "debate," but no one is providing any direct evidence other than "I do(n't) think that is true."

Even better, infrastructure enabled IPv6, and the issue was closed. In corporate software development, we work the tickets assigned, and keep our KPIs up so that we don't face the wrath of the bean counters.

Who? The infrastructure team that did the move didn't even tell anyone. They were decommissioning old servers, and moving the VMs to new hardware. I'm just a lowly developer that had to troubleshoot why SMSes stopped going out.

Couldn't tell you. I'm not part of the infrastructure team. I wasn't even aware the alerting service was moving. QA found it a couple weeks later when they were testing alerting, and SMSes weren't coming through.

Same with Twilio. We have an internal server that does system alerts. We recently moved it to an IPv6 only host, and a few weeks went by and noticed there were no longer receiving alerts. Turns out we could not connect to Twilio's API

Because the fee revenue was created by congress, so the money goes 1/3 to Treasury to help pay national debt (doesn't really make a dent), about $1.6B goes to the government general fund. But FY24 collected $4.5B in fees, but the
