For Google in particular, this was honestly something they could've done far earlier. They had the Pixel phones, they had the Tensor stuff, and then Gemini came along. But for some reason, they decided to just stick to feature tidbits

I have an M1 MBP too, and while it appeared stable, I saw the GPU usage skyrocket while that page was running in Chrome, around 75% in Activity Monitor (View -> GPU Processes), and reaching close to 100% in iStat Menus.

The home page title has the word zero knowledge, I guess? Their GitHub has slightly more info regarding this, but I agree that stuff like this should have at least a page dedicated for it that explains how they've implemented their sec

Your anecdote interests me because I've the same thoughts but prefer USB-C instead. I've taken care of my family's iPhones and the issues of pocket lint and loose cables have happened far too often for me to ignore. The occas

Maybe around once a week, sometimes twice? It's not so often, but on occasions when I have to, it's nice to have long, reliable battery life since they're usually the times when there's also a notable lack of power outle

The Linux -> macOS experience tbh is really either about putting up with macOS' issues and adjusting to them, or patching things up with third-party solutions to make it tolerable. Or a bit of both. I've learned to adapt to it

I love PlantUML. I was always fond of it in my early days as a software engineer and still use it today, along with all the various ways to draw diagrams out there, whether it's through a web tool like draw.io or Miro or through markup

I also use both Tab Stash and Sidebery. Tab Stash is really more for long-lasting / bookmarked tabs / handling various contexts in my mind and work to get back later. Sidebery on the other hand helps me manage what I currently hav

I have limited experience in using multiple Firefox profiles, but assuming it works like Chrome's, I like Multi-Account Containers instead because it lets me mix and match tabs running on different containers if you really have to. I m

Synology Photos doesn't get much of a mention here because it's tied to the Synology brand of NAS products, but I have to admit that it's one of the best Google Photos replacements out there even though it's lacking feat

I've definitely learned to take more screenshots for over a year now and I'm glad I took the time to "optimize" my process: making use of tools like Syncthing to collect screenshots from my phone and laptops, automatical

One good case I can think of is Crinacle. Very popular for his audio measurements site and does YouTube. His Google account got flagged for something suspicious, Google had it shut down and without good explanations. He can't even get

I highly recommend installing Buzzkill for those on Android. In addition to built-in per-channel settings, Buzzkill allows you to create rules to auto-dismiss or do certain actions depending on the title or description of the notification,

I've had this problem too. In terms of security, it's great, but it's terrible when you're going back to old, dormant accounts and have lost trusted devices. Thankfully, it's not a problem if you've set recover

Mind if I ask when you've last used Firefox? I've had these problems before (on rare occasions) but ever since Firefox did its Quantum leap, these issues were pretty much resolved.

Syncthing is one of the biggest reasons why I use Android today. That sounds strange, but when you have old spare phones, they're very useful for this. Even for the daily driver phone that I use, it's so good at keeping files in s

Hmm, I've sort of accomplished this with Notion already, by working around in a single Calendar view with tasks written in pages and such. Of course, this looks a lot smarter with proper calendar integrations and nifty time adjustment

Speaking of Spectre/Meltdown, are these mitigations also in place with Apple M1 Macs? I'm quite curious how Apple has handled these.

Personally, I use a combination of tesseract and MacOS' screen capture to achieve the same thing. Very handy to have if you use an app like BetterTouchTool to run it with a quick hotkey. https://gist.github.com/jerielja

This is very strange. I have over 480 and never experienced delays in anywhere (MacOS, Android, iOS). Searches only take a second or two once you've started typing in two characters in the search box.

It probably needs that for contact lookups and insights, since you can compose invites using natural text. I'm not comfortable with it either to be honest, seeing that it could delete contacts according to Google's prompt.
