Sort of. Given a continuum of reliability needs, options for variably controlling the window of data loss are welcome. The bottom line is solid-state components are very reliable. Across hundreds of systems, I see uptimes in years. If I

The article fails to mention the principle driver of this technology, David Chaum. The system is a descendant of Chaum's prior voting works with broader participation.

One imagines djb envisioning a single roundtrip for encrypted HTTP, built on top of DNSCurve. You have the public key via DNS, you send an encrypted request and receive a verifiable encrypted response that includes content and begins the mu

I meant to mention giving your services to schools free/cost of expenses. You cite a 10x price range, so I'm assuming schools are at the bottom, other venues middle/top. How much do you promote? Scott Berkun (and let's take another minor

Yeah, Matt lost me here (in his reply to Willy Tarreau's [HAProxy] comment.) Packet rewriting is nice and efficient, but it's dumb. Unless you measure a latency/cpu issue with proxies, in a system with lots of moving parts, having high-le

For such special-purpose threads, I think it's worth seeing those comments fall through upvotes (or flagging) rather than penalize straight opinions. A similar chilling effect to a downvoted opinion could be had by exposing the downvoters.

I'm impressed by the shifting voting trends when a new, dissenting (sub)opinion is attached to a comment. A string of upvotes now is halted/reversed. And the polarity change can happen several times. An articulated position unleashes the

Actually, during that period, I was often vexed that very few separated the good idea (bundling a web browser free) from the bad (anticompetitive OEM deals) -- at least in the national papers. It all got lumped into Microhate.

Twitter's fail whale is universally cute and disarming. If some portion of Wave's audience is skeeved out by the maintenance page with unpleasant feet, it needs fixing. (Especially for unplanned maintenance.) I've now asked four women. T

The fork+exec is efficient. The blog post compares things without units. Forks (principally page table copies w/copy-on-write in effect) are measured in microseconds and the exec is your standard binary startup time. While you don't want
