Since fiber optics work just dandy, clearly getting your source to switch on and off at the requisite rate is not the trick. But if you're not shining down a fiber optic cable, you have the problem that intensity decreases as the squa

Guys, it's your LTS release. Don't use that one to break stuff.

I agree, if Google decides to blacklist your domain you basically own a pile of bitter bitter ashes. Is there an effective appeals process if this happens? I looked into it when LetsEncrypt announced their plans to use Google's backli

You can run the letsencrypt client as non-root, but it takes a greater degree of system configuration first. letsencrypt-auto in its current incarnation sure does run as root, however. The current state of affairs is to prioritize ease ov

There is no "0AD", and if you don't have leap seconds then the number of seconds per repeat of the Gregorian calendar is not fixed—just have a look at the graph at http://www.ucolick.org/~sla/leapsecs

Wow, it's time to badmouth letsencrypt already? Sorry, namecheap, letsencrypt is going to eat your lunch if your lunch is DV certificates.

The UNIX 'zoneinfo' format is flexible enough to incorporate second offsets, so this can be done on many systems today (Linux, *BSD (the latter including, I assume, OS X)). The system clock would be kept in TAI (or maybe GPS, whic

nonportability is typically a design goal of systemd. See http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/the-biggest-myths.html down at point 16 ("Myth: systemd is not portable for no reason.")

I don't believe 90% of the top 1000 WP plugins don't have vulnerabilities, so this doesn't feel like a great result for static analysis.

nope. Here I use the trick that for most ints, hash(i) == i to quickly find two values with the same hash and put them in a dict. >>> k1 = "foo" >>> k2 = hash(k1) >>> hash(k1) == hash(k2)

Purported proofs of P=NP are published multiple times a year. They just always turn out to have a flaw, just like the P≠NP proofs. http://www.win.tue.nl/~gwoegi/P-versus-NP.htm collects them, though it hasn't be

Freevolt's "RF Energy Harvesting Whitepaper" figure 1 shows the energy harvested from RF as .1µW/cm² to 2000µW/cm², but the text gives energy densities .01µW/cm² to 100µW/cm². This density estimate may be

I researched the 410c schematic as suggested by tbr. I can measure the input voltage at J1 and measure the input current as a voltage across the .1Ohm resistor r77 or pads 1 and 2 of j10 (both on the bottom side of the board). Idle,

I only have a kill-a-watt for measuring power consumption. I am using a brandless Universal AC Adapter at 15V and I do not know its efficiency. I'm not aware of any ability to monitor power consumption directly on the dragonboard.

I have one of these, and so far it's a mixed bag. First off, the wifi is badly broken in ubuntu because NO multicast ethernet packets are received by Linux; they are apparently being filtered in the ethernet card by the binary blob.

I was most interested to see how the fork syscall works: sys fork br new process code / old process code continues here / r0 contains new process pid / c flag set if fork failed so the if(fork() == 0)

Have you tried this lately? On a Debian Jessie machine using the en_US.UTF-8 locale, I encountered no problems doing this, though I picked œ instead of ö. I did have a little bit of pain from git (git status showed \305\223 for œ) until I

Relies on browser's random number generator to choose from word list. A browser's RNG is of dubious quality at best; you're not likely to really get 44 bits of entropy from it.
