I was quite pleased with Taxiio[1]: Uber for taxis. Now there's a novel idea. [1] http://www.launchnik.com/taxiio

For C, I'd agree that it's useful. The flags I listed have issues specifically for C++. -Wc++98-compat, on a C++11 or C++14 project, is about as helpful as you'd expect. -Wpadded is triggered pretty reliably by subclassess. A

Clang's -Weverything isn't really as useful as it sounds; since it includes fairly-to-completely useless warnings like -Wc++98-compat, -Wpadded, or -Wweak-vtables, you'll end up spending so much time playing warning whack-a-m

Macros really aren't about performance, though (or at least they shouldn't be; inlining and/or constexpr are a better solution to that problem in basically every respect). They're either about simple, potentially extreme

Closures might make this difficult, since a variable might be referenced by name before it's defined in any scope.

Yes, but that doesn't really answer the question. His site also has a lot of information on Apple, Google, and Microsoft, but none of it is about their considerable open source contributions.

To be completely pedantic, red blood cells lack nuclei, so aside from maybe mitochondria or something they actually don't carry DNA.

Nah, I don't think it's a sign of bad health. I'm in reasonably good health (and if anything underweight), and drinking soda definitely makes eating a lot of greasy food like fries easier/more pleasant than drinking some

As a recent convert from Linux/Amarok, I think iTunes is great. I really don't understand why it gets so much hate. It works perfectly fine for me, and looks quite pretty doing it. I don't know any other music player that has

Yes, but by the same token, every tech article written by a woman seems to have a comment saying "Oh, I'm such an asshole, I assumed you were a man". Now I can't speak from personal experience, but that seems to be pre

The crucial point is that "yo sé" couldn't be shortened to "no", in the same way that "I know" can be shortened to "no" (via "I know" -> "know" -> "no").

Nitpick: Comparing Rust's error messages and g++'s error messages, and saying that therefore Rust has a better toolchain, isn't really fair. pcwalton mentioned elsewhere in the thread that Rust's messages are based on cl

Is their new project architecturally different, or just a rebranding? I've thought for years that they should rename the thing, to get rid of the stigma, but it'd be kind of a shame to completely abandon the browser just as it was

Unicode kind of does this already with dotless 'i'; capital 'ı' and lowercase 'İ' are represented as regular latin 'I' and 'i' respectively, despite being semantically different letters.

No kidding; so far as I can tell, the first ~15 paragraphs are all essentially paraphrases of each other. I like C&H as much as the next guy, but is this much... breathlessness really called for?

I thought "gamification of open source development" was always a pretty major part of Github's business model. Frankly I don't know if that's a bad thing; I've certainly been motivated by trying to keep my &quo

1. Mainly for fun! Languages are pretty complex, so I got to learn about number of things (e.g. recursive-descent parsing, closures, Ruby and Python internals) in making it, and it's pretty rewarding watching programs run successfully.

While I mostly agree, by this definition most things called "casts" aren't anything of the sort. In C++, static_cast (when called on value types) and dynamic_cast are both conversions, not casts--- static_cast<int>(5.5)
