As I understand it, headscale was implemented by an enthusiast user who became an enthusiast employee, who is allowed to spend work cycles on maintaining it.

Shitty non-platform-integrated UI 8: my particular bug bear. I want a native Apple TV app using native controls if I’m to pay money for a streaming service. That said, I just don’t bother watching if that isn’t available.

Well in that case, every Java DI framework I’ve encountered has that smell. Spring, Guice, all of them. Same in C#. Perhaps it’s an enterprise (in the pejorative) thing. It is interesting to note that these frameworks are effectively non-ex

If you’re doing that, you may as just mock your concrete class. Mockito supports this in Java. Perhaps this is needed in C#?

Indeed, you get the benefits of dependency injection, without the complexity and shit show of a truth-obscuring framework. I think we can both agree that it’s good we don’t need to work with each other though.

While I agree this is largely a "skill issue", I'm not so sure it's in the direction you seem to think it is. Almost nothing written using Go uses an IoC container (which is what I assume you're meaning by DI here).

Being able to understand a system under fire with minimal tooling available is a property one must design for. If you get woken up at 3am with a production outage, the last thing you want to do is start digging through some smart-ass framew

Maybe you could even use a different handler in tests!? Shocking that you can do this without using an IoC container and a thousand lines of YAML! /sarcasm (in case anyone doubted it).

If it becomes a chore to instantiate your dependency tree with `new` or whatever in the root of your app, it's a good indication that the dependency tree _is too complex_. You _should_ feel the pain of that, to align incentives for sim

The _canonical_ state is what is in the production database(s). What's in version control is hopefully able to recreate it, with the obvious caveat of being highly unlikely to be able to repopulate the data.

I wonder if the clause in the Oracle license that prohibits publishing benchmarks and other studies could be to blame for Jepsen having not investigated..?

Not to AUS or, as far as I’m aware, SFO. They also screwed the pooch in Austin by making Waymo available only through Uber, with no way to ensure you actually get a Waymo rather than a broken car driven by someone with a serious BO problem.

It’s now been approximately 7 years since Apple open sourced FoundationDB. Note that it was closed source before the acquisition, which is often not appreciated.
