Are we mixing up fusion and fission here? Fission has cost problems. Fusion doesn't have cost problems, it has viability problems. We still haven't even produced net positive energy. Then, if that milestone is reached, continuous

It doesn't work now, at least for one of its purposes. You can no longer read the thread without being logged in. That reduces its value when it's linked from articles or hn or wherever. For people like myself who'd read the

I think this is too much of a simplification to be a useful guide. First the older stuff can be discounted because there just isn't enough written evidence to know what the general Roman population was thinking. Columbus wasn't ge

I'm a New Zealander too. I don't really see that this is going to improve their tax position much. How many folks turning 16 are going to take up cigarettes over vaping? I mean, I agree, their position is stupid and if they alread

Most worms don't actually become separate organisms when cut in half, it's just a myth based on their reaction. They usually just die after while.

Pretty much the same, except I do re-read the odd book... and they're all still there. I've not had a Kindle book disappear. I used to use calibre, but at some point I realised I was just curating a massive library for no reason.

You still shouldn't be driving that fast. In your panic you're even more likely to make a mistake and end up killing yourself, your passenger and, potentially, another car full of people. Emergency vehicles are involved in proport

Same situation, although the colleague in question had left the place I worked a few months before he died in an accident. I still see his name in the git blame lines most weeks and think of him.

I've lost many pets over the years and my father, and grandparents I was close to. I think it depends on the circumstance. Losing a pet unexpectedly is worse than losing a grandparent to old age. A pet dying of old age is a mix of grie
