Yeah, I have definitely noticed that a lot of Americans on HN would rather flag uncomfortable articles about their country.

Do I misunderstand or does your page count today's downtime as minor? I would not count the web UI being mostly unusable as minor. Does this mean GitHub understates how bad incidents are? Pr has your page just not yet been updated to i

They do not want to solve the problem, they want to collect our IDs. If they would have wanted to actually solve it they would not have done this on legislations where it is not a requirement.

I am personally totally fine with it but I see your point. Github is a bit too big for often braking with a cutsey error message even if it is a reference to their web server.

Not any longer. It used to but the outages have become very common. I am thinking about moving all my personal stuff to Codeberg.

Several quite big projects have moved to Codeberg. I have no idea how it has worked out for them.

Having used both I think you are way too kind on Teams.

Care to give me an example to satisfy my morbid curiosity? I have used a lot of really bad chat clients over the year and Microsft's rewritten Skype is one of only a handful worse than Teams. Teams is not the worst but it is on my top

For sure. But without a cohesive vision throwing money at it can only make it worse if it does anything at all.

Looking at examples it looks way more like incompetence.

There is nothing novel about it. I saw at least one person say that they have done exactly the same thing out of laziness.

I think you missed the point. If you have a 100 MW communicstion satellite and a 100 MW compute satellite those are very different beasts. The first might send 50% of the energy away as radio communication making it effectively a 50 MW sate

By the same token SpaceX has no reason to optimize Starship. That is also largely a government project.

Then maybe you should move here. We have in most cases well functioning regulations. Of course there are counter examples where it has been bad but data centers is not one of them. It is easy to get permits to build one.

Hyperloop: makes no sense Solar roof tiles: makes no sense Lot's of tiny tunnels under cities: makes no sense Performance of the new roadster: makes no sense All four of the above were likely scams. Musk is not beyond running a scam.

So why does he not build here in Europe then? Getting a permit for building a data center in Sweden is just normal industrial zoning that anyone can get for cheap, there is plenty of it. Only challenge is getting enough electricity.

Could he ever win a case in court? At least the Swedish legal system is based a lot around common sense and good faith and such a trap would likely end up with the one who sued having to pay the legal costs for both parties.

No, it is great that people bitch about it. These companies need to be called out and shamed. Now I know that I will not waste time evaluating Mattermost.

Yeah, this is a feature I use a lot. If it was no longer there I would need to switch to a scriptable window manager and manually script positions.

Potentially in a few cities with high cost of living and nice weather, but certainly not worldwide. Not even the best can handle bad weather yet.

Tesla's sales are standing still in a growing market. Are they GameStop? Maybe not, but they still require a major shift or their competitors will leave them behind in the dirt.

Yeah, in Europe Tesla is not losing to BYD. They are losing to VW and BMV before the Chinese manufacturers have entered the competition for real.

The board cannot rein him in because doing so risks having the stock valued as a car company stock and not as a tech company or meme stock. I think they can only fix this after the stock has crashed.

No, I do not even think people like DeSantis or Ted Cruz would have been worse. Trump was one of the worst possible candidates the US voters could pick.

Why don't you go up and punch him in the face yourself? Especially if the problem is just one man and 400 enablers hat should be trivial. Just find 1000 people to beat them up. In reality that one man is backed by half of the US voters
