That I am well aware of. I hate running Gitlab. I jsut wonder what different features different people are missing.

Any important feature from Gitlab you feel is missing? I personally think Gitlab has way more features than I need but maybe there are some important ones I would miss.

I cannot comment on how useful these tools are or not since I started using computers in English (there were no translations to my language back then) without any such tool or without knowing any English. I had the of speaking another Germa

I assume it must be 2015 at most because my first job in 2008 ran everything, including images, on HTTPS. But I can imagine some last holdpouts 7 years after that.

Yes, but it is a tricky situation when a common tactic is to pretend to be ignorant. For example by "just asking questions". We need more patience and respect in this polarized world but at the same time there are a minority of ma

I don't have the same experience at all. The people who I know and have met which enjoy watching sports come at all levels of fitness. I am not that interested myself but quite many of the members of my running club enjoy watching spor

Talking about cars in Western Europe isn't that safe bet either. In cities like Stockholm most people are not interested in cars. And similarily hunting and fishing are niche interests in urban areas.

I mostly chose languages due to semantics.

I am an exception then. Rust may be my favourite language but the syntax is pretty awful and one of its biggest weaknesses. I also love Ruby but I am pretty meh about its syntax.

Canonical did their own NIH init daemon called Upstart which failed due to the fundamental design and the implementation being plain bad. Redhat builds better software which is why their NIH gets more adoption.

I have met those supersmart specialists but in my experience there are also a lot of smart people who are more generalists. The real answer is likely internal company politics and priorities. Google certainly has people with the technical s

I have met a lot of people at Google, they have some really good engineers and mediocre ones. But mostl importantly they are just normal engineers dealing normal office politics. I don't like how the grand parent mystifies this. This p

You don't need package management by the same token. C is proof of that. Having worked professionally in C, Java, Rust, Ruby, Perl, PHP I strongly prefer lock files. They make it so much nicer to manage dependencies.
