Here in Seattle our condo building is in the middle of something insane - Comcast is actively installing their network in our building; previously we were only served by Wave Broadband. The local government has finally pushed back on what u

Here in Washington state our 405 lanes have new "Express toll" lanes; if you have 3+ people during rush hour you get to use them free, otherwise for 1-2 people you pay up to $10 based on congestion... The prices are mostly set dyn

Frankly surprised they aren't doing it already, or at least some other agency. The Europeans seem to be leading when it comes to some of this tech, though at least with GDPR in theory it's a rolling 30-day window of data and not a

This scares me, a lot. After watching enough videos online I've had to start using the Apple Store, paying shipping, to avoid any potential fire hazards. Most consumers probably never know. :( It's crazy that they sell the fakes o

That's yet another whole potential article about lobbying and regulation in America, labeling what "high-speed Internet" is until it's watered down to DSL or so at 4 mbps. At least a few years ago they redefined it to 25

It's a bit of a walk; the real amazement to me was that the rental car terminal was built across the street from the Tukwila Int'l Blvd station - I assume some union or lobbyist there for the bus driver's union forced that on

Yeah... it's also tough, many real estate investment trusts and companies have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders to seek a great return on investment. If there's no margin in the affordable housing game, it's n

I'm starting to think it is less about foreign investments, like a few other comments have noted, and more about changes at the top end of the middle class. Along with the large amounts of growth, wages in the upper middle class have r

When I've had time to prepare, I've taken the time to review candidates' GitHub repositories, and it has surely helped to really understand what "open source experience" means vs "coding camp attendee". It

So true! We have thousands of employees at our company using GitHub.com, and every week someone loses access to their account permanently. Why? They never bothered to store the original recovery codes for the account.

With GitHub the SMS backup option is just a secondary choice, not required. A UbiKey or similar device or just storing the recovery codes + using an app is the best route in that one.

Check out the Communications Museum sometime - no phreaking exhibit per se, but much more in that direction. It's closely to Living Computers, in Georgetown. http://museumofcommunications.org

Amex Platinum is a charge card, you must pay them [for the most part] within 30 days, which is quite different from most American credit cards. Not a debit card, but close, outside of pay-over-time benefits.

Super interesting, sure, but the Centurion card ("black card") is much more elite - minimum spend, $7,500 just to get the card, etc. Great offering from Amex but a different league than the middle class cards like Chase Sapphire,

Sadly the Delta product is more of a rebranding of Comfort Plus... more food service but not anything very comfortable. If they would just offer the equivalent of domestic Delta First as a premium economy that would be a start for me!

Even more confusing on the TV show timing now thanks to Internet streaming. Westworld on HBO may technically broadcast at 10pm Eastern, and on HBO west it is broadcast at 10pm Pacific, but then it's also available on HBO Go and HBO Now
