None of the covered properties in Berkeley are legitimate landmarks of genuine architectural merit or historical importance. Every one of them was established by flim-flam for the purpose of claiming the tax abatement. Over the years this l

People say that in Berkeley but usually the specifics of the deal they are taking about are incorrect, so I generally ignore such people. For example the properties owned by the U.C. wealth fund are taxed like any other.

TL;DR taking properties off the tax roll costs the remaining taxpayers more. Pretty basic stuff. I've been talking this up to local electeds for decades, with very little progress. The only success I've had is ending the local pro

Their service is way worse than you think, in every way. The actual unsupervised Robotaxi service doesn't cover a geofenced area of Austin, like Waymo does. It traverses a fixed route along South Congress Avenue, like a damned bus.

That's great and, of course, only your experience matters to the choice of which OS you use. I just don't want people to get the impression there are no tradeoffs. Another tradeoff GrapheneOS makes is because of the way they confi

Greenwald defends totalitarian strongmen abroad by his reflexive and universal opposition to American power. His stance on Ukraine, for example, is as extremely pro-Putin as any writing can get without saying "I love Vlad and I will ki

Greenwald is a vocal and consistent anti-institutionalist, and this creates the conditions for strongmen to take over. Whether he is aware of having this effect is not relevant.

If you just want to send a protobuf to a host:port there's no reason you can't do that with gRPC. Client load balancers are something you can optionally layer on top.

There is nothing analogous to the ORB in gRPC, so your complaint seems hallucinated. Callers are entirely responsible for figuring out where their services are. gRPC holds no opinions whatsoever about how your servers are named or how their

I don't see why any of that would be necessary. There are simple rules for protobuf compatibility and people only need to follow them. Never re-use a field number to mean something else. Never change the type of a field. That's it
