I seriously doubt it will hurt universities. The fact is, to accomplish anything mainstream, you are still 'required' to have a degree. You can certainly accomplish a lot without it, but the barrier to entry is increased significantly witho

Its a wonder people still use the service after articles like this come to light. Its not the first time Paypal has pulled this stunt. A mass boycott isn't out of order.

A ripped off version seems more appropriate. This seems...well, criminal. I love Minecraft. I hope Notch does something to stop this. I'd love to see Minecraft on the Xbox, but not if it means stealing someone else's idea.

I like what you've done. As an aside, I noticed you're using Slicehost. You can get better performance, for cheaper from Linode if you want. I've switched many a client to Linode and never heard a complaint. Just a suggestion.

Cool idea. I'd like to see an IMDB link somewhere on the page and perhaps partnerships with private trackers?

I've come to realize in my short time here, that dissenting opinions are dangerous. I've learned to respect the karma gods and pander or, post my opinion and delete it before taking too hard a karma hit. Its sad to see that an informed, but

Well played! I wonder if this has anything to do with: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2247962 I know I plan to comment my python code a little differently now! Maybe that will help balance the numbers? I know I'd be pretty vulgar if

It really depends. The survey is an interesting method of filtering people in of itself, to assure they'll use the service AND it has the added bonus of giving you some free market research. However, you don't want to be too intrusive at th

Run it until you know there are no major snafus. I.e., system doesn't auto-purge your DB, assimilate all your users and nuke the planet. Once things are stable, start scaling the beta up to a reasonable number of users. I.e., stress test, i

This is both wonderful and disappointing. We're still pretty locked into 2.6. I'd love to move to 3.2 but it would break EVERYTHING!!!!(! added for emphasis!) Maybe in ~10 years, everyone will be using 3.2, I know I can't wait! :D
