I like dark UIs because they are not hurting my eyes like white or bright ones. Especially when it's dark in the room and the screen just screams at me with all the super bright light.

I kind of agree, with distros like Ubuntu you get the Windows convenience and most of the people just use a browser for everything nowadays anyway.

On my instance I can (manually) request a backup every 7 days. It would be nice if this could be automated but it's all media etc. so it's quite big for email. If the admin would have announced that they would switch off the serve

You can start somewhere and then if you see that it doesn't stick around you can easily move your account to a different server and take all your followers with you, it's build into the software. In that sense it's even nicer

Kind of, Mastodon is the 'Twitter' part of the fediverse, PeerTube is the 'YouTube' part, Pixelfed is the 'Instagram' part, there are even people who try to use ActivityPub for things you do on GitHub normally.

Then check out https://joinmastodon.org/ you can either host it yourself or join someone else's server where you can either pay/donate or just use it for free.

I never really understood the appeal of 1Password, why would you send all your passwords to a 3rd party where you can't even read the source code? I'm using KeePassXC in combination with Syncthing, everything is hosted by me and w

I was also kind of shocked about how low that number is because most of my family and friends use Firefox, but most probably I live in a self inflicted bubble because I tell everyone to use Firefox instead when I see that they don't.

My reasons: 1. I feel I can trust Mozilla much more than I can trust Google. 2. I can run my own sync server for passwords, bookmarks, etc.

For some reason I never read books and somehow I even got ma bachelor in computer science without reading any of the books but just skimming over some of them. I find it very tiresome to read books, when I sit down with one and start readin

It's basically the opposite in Sweden, if you don't have a credit card but just cash, you will at least in Gothenburg where I work go hungry during lunch.

Not in Sweden anymore, most of the lunch places in Gothenburg where I live don't allow payment by cache anymore. If you have money but not digital, you will go hungry nowadays.
