This can be fixed by a small change to privacy liability law. Current law requires litigants to show actual economic harm. That is hard to do in cases of identity theft and privacy violations, which is why the OPM case was just dismissed

It doesn't bother you to have the perception of privacy without actual privacy? Like being alone, except for the hidden cameras.

Unfortunately, having the list software create a new message breaks threading. It is common practice to Cc people (subscribed to the list or not) that may need to interact with the thread, but they get the message directly from the sender w

In each previous upheaval, new industries created large numbers of low-skilled jobs. In contrast, most of the new jobs created by AI will require significant education and creativity.

The bottleneck here is education. There will always be demand for employees in the emerging industries, but the required skillset will increasingly be out of reach of the masses, partly due to the time needed to learn these skills (compound

Cool service. Beware that the Wikipedia links may direct to different people with the same name, particularly for local offices. For example, my Assessor links to a British wartime codebreaker and my Surveyor links to a Kiwi rugby star.

Does anyone have numbers on memory bandwidth and latency? The x1 cost per GB is about 2/3 that of r3 instances, but you get 4x as many memory channels if spec the same amount of memory via r3 instances so the cost per memory channel is

Most everything here is subjective, inaccurate, or outdated by C99, save Fortran's multi-dimensional array handling which is legitimately superior to C despite partial reconciliation by VLAs.

I came here to cite the same paper, but your comment about efficiency is only true in a limited context. Applying an explicitly-computed inverse exposes more parallelism than solving with factors. State of the art parallel linear algebra p

My resting has been 36-40 since age 15. Scared the hell out of me once when I was in an ER for trauma and they say "we have to fix your heart first". It's common for athletes to have a resting heart rate below 40, though I&

Anecdotally, I experience somewhat higher perceived effort at a given (moderate) heart rate when better trained. For example, my resting and max heart rates have been nearly constant at 36-40 and 170-175 since about 18 (I'm 32 now). Du

A huge source of uncertainty in molecular dynamics comes from the force model, which are crude approximations of electronic structure. There is a great deal of active research on improved force models, many of which are implemented in AMBE
