It's common to use double letters (ii, jj, kk) as inner indices when writing tiled multi-dimensional array code. Regardless of whether you think that is a good convention, you should be preserving that convention if you are editing legacy c

I almost exclusively use perl -pi -e COMMAND instead of sed for stream processing. I also use grep --perl-regexp in most cases. I need to remember Emacs and perl regex semantics; I'd rather not have more variants to remember.

I go through security an average of about four times a month. I opt out any time I'm not in danger of missing a flight. Some airports are friendly and expedient about it, others (most recently, Austin) had me wait for about fifteen minutes

Neat resource, but I wouldn't call it a mathematical guide to FEM. More like practical tips for engineering use of FEM for structural mechanics.

Note that this chip, when fitted with DDR3-1333, has a theoretical peak system bandwidth of 32 GB/s (achievable peak will be somewhat lower). This hash, running on a single core, claims to process 16.2 GB/s. There are 4 cores (8 threads) on

Look at revenue, not profit. The economy doesn't care how much the company profits, it cares how much the company is spending (on employees and other services).

You might have skipped insurance in your list, but I don't think the parent meant $20k-30k as the yearly cost (because that much is rare), but as the initial purchase price (which is common when buying new).

If it's the second, then market forces might eventually balance out and make hiring people an attractive choice again. It's definitely not going to balance out so that it becomes economical to hire people for today's low-skill jobs. At an

If bribery has to be covert, it can be investigated by the legal system. In its current form, bribery is essentially legal. Think about Lessig's suggestion. http://rootstrikers.org http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-december-13-2011/e

I prefer the CS model in some ways, but there are issues. * The review process for conferences is necessarily compressed relative to journals. This usually lowers the quality of reviews and also limits paper length. * It is difficult to "gr
