there used to be a running joke in the AfterEffects subreddit that 95% of “What’s this effect called?” questions the answer was datamoshing. I think they even had a bot that would auto answer with datamoshing since it was asked so frequentl

slightly off topic: but on the topic of AI coding agents making up apis and features that don’t exist, I’ve had good success with Q telling it to “check the sources to make sure the apis actually exist”. sometimes it will even request to re

Landmark based directions rather than street names does seem like a plausible explanation. I still have some childhood friends whose houses I don’t know the street address but I know how to get there I still prefer street names since those

oof, I’m not sure if I’m proud or ashamed of having an idea in the “torment nexus”. I believe I heard of the idea in some of the discussion surrounding a patent from an automaker to use microphones in the car for a data source for targeted

I had an old Tesla M40 12 GB lying around and figured I’d try it out with some 8-13B llms, but was disappointed to find that it’s around the same speed as my mac mini m2. I suppose the mac mini is a 10 years newer chip, but it’s crazy that

as I understand it, Discover gets to charge higher fees on debit cards (than eg visa and mc) due to some regulatory carve out, so capital one wants to take advantage of this and Discover’s payment network

this thread is helping me understand why I always thought 3D movies looked _less_ 3D than 2D movies. That and after seeing Avatar 1 in 3D, then seeing Avatar 2 in 3D over 10 years later and not really noticing any improvement in the 3D made

I've been down the artificial sunlight at home rabbit hole too (also inspired by the same DIY Perks video). Ultimately the solution I settled on was a much lower budget 300W equiv LED Corn style bulb (4000lm) with good CRI, and a 250w

I don’t see why people are so upset about this. Mexico is in the continent of North America. if they were trying to rename it to “Gulf of the United States” or something then that would be less reasonable.
