I'm fine with using the word homophobia to describe homophobia. Just because most people were something doesn't mean they weren't that something. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman

What word would be more appropriate than homophobe here? I know it's fun to argue, but what is your point?

It's pretty common for sites to change referal links like this. I think the rationale is "my site, my bandwidth, my referral money." Can't argue with that!

For those who are wondering what MetaFilter is, it's a meta-filtered internet space, a well-moderated community where people can talk about things on the internet, without making it all about themselves. The About page is a good place

Want to be taken seriously as a developer? Get a job doing it. First of the month is just around the corner, and you have plenty of time to spruce up the README files on your github page to prepare. :)

I disagree with your core premise because a political contribution is more than an opinion or a thought. It is an action as well as an endorsement.

I like the LED status lights, but I don't like the skeumorphic cylindrical battery shape. Batteries get away with it because you put them into something. This thing will just continue to fall down or roll around.

Are those Markus chairs from IKEA really comparable to the ilk of Herman Miller et al.? I'm wondering if the road trip to try one out is worthwhile. Please share your experiences if you own one.

Rather than an all or nothing proposition, I saw this quote as an elegant framing of what the liberal arts are: nice-to-haves in the wake of ought-to-haves in the wake of die-or-haves. In the popular discourse, we aren't always afforde
