This C code doesn't use the C library. Code like this in Rust wouldn't engage with any part of the Rust standard library either. There's no runtime work to be done, in either language.

Much as I disliked the proposal in the original post (which was later clarified by the GTK+ developers), it is telling that the respondent did not bother to research the reasons behind GTK+'s two API/ABI breaks in its 18 year hist

"arbitrary syntax"… by that implication, isn't all syntax arbitrary? Your 99% use case is handled by "grep needle". You don't need an entire esoteric programming language to do a simple string search.

Same experience here, both on Mac and Windows. They've done a great job making it "just work". The user interface pieces are a bit raw -- perhaps "minimalist" or "unobtrusive" would put that in a better li

OK, so: a) Phoronix. Grain of salt, please. b) Motivating ideation is not a plan. It was never the case that 10x10, GNOME 4.0, 20x20, GNOME OS (proposed more than a decade earlier btw) were widely accepted goals of the project. They wer

I have incredibly strong doubts that this will ever be open sourced, as Microsoft does not want third parties to implement NT subsystems. If the emulation target is itself an abstraction, then maybe. Maaaaaybe. But that delivers pretty much

If nothing else, based on the capabilities demonstrated so far, you should (theoretically) be able to run local Linux X client apps to a Windows X server over localhost TCP. You'll miss out on a few optimisations available when using s

You can run any* Linux binary on WinLS, including apt-get in the Ubuntu rootfs. * within the probably surprisingly broad limits of the WinLS syscall emulation, though it wouldn't support niche OS config stuff, SELinux calls, etc.
