I'm a big fan of an uncluttered instrument cluster, preferably with analogue gauges but I've seen some digital versions that are fine. The real problem seems to be the screens suffer the same fate as all software, adding gimmicks

Not necessarily. They may have no knowledge of the smuggled cargo on their vessel. Without knowledge or intent it's hard to argue they are guilty of smuggling by mere ownership.

Unfortunately the practice is as old as the republic itself. It comes from British law where the owners of vessels are unreachable by the courts but their property (the ship) is attainable. The case law on this is very extensive. A law p

They have only two flight computers - either of which are capable of crashing the plane. With only two its not always possible to know which is incorrect. Regardless of how much you go over it you can’t fix a fundamentally broken design.

Paying restitution is one thing, being forced to stay in jail while paying it back is quite another. Normally these cases are handled with garnished wages.

At first I nodded in agreement. Then I wondered if someone had the $11,000 would they still be in jail?

If the government is giving you a free phone, I'd hope its because you couldn't otherwise afford one. https://www.fcc.gov/general/lifeline-program-low-income-cons...

Apple has dragged Photoshop kicking and screaming onto different platforms and even OS’ before. If they succeeded when they were nearly dead (OS X Cocoa timeframe) they will have no problems doing it now.

In electronics instantaneous power still needs to be accounted for. You can’t just average it out especially if its many orders of magnitude higher than continuous. I’d be absolutely shocked if biological systems were somehow different.

Laser light is much worse for the eyes because the energy is concentrated. It’s why you can buy 100W light bulbs but a 50mW laser needs a warning label.

Today we have different systems for different needs. You can use an interpreted language like Python to get simplicity or you can use something like Rust where a program essentially doubles as proof of correctness. Strong typing is really

The Pacific Bluefin is only listed as Vulnerable while the Atlantic is Endangered. It may seem like exaggerating will encourage more action, but my experience is it just causes people to tune out.

Perhaps your not aware of C++ random_access iterators? You can indeed do random access with iterators and this functionality is integral to many standard library algorithms. http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/iterator&

The CPU’s instruction set and machine architecture are just as artificial. Try FPGAs and you can really experiment with non von neumann machines. But even that is artificially limiting. The tooling makes it nearly impossible to build fully

Smart people don’t necessarily feel joy or a rush when solving a problem. They can also often be poor learners having been able to rest on their intellect and not learning how to study during the early years of school. I highly disagree tha

This is really moot since MSVCRT is a C runtime lib with MSVCPRT being the the C++ one. Again no stability guarantees are made with any of this. Microsoft promises backward compatibility but not forward compatibility. There is no promise

I guess it matters whether you consider name mangling to be a part of the ABI. Name mangling used to change quite frequently. Starting with VS 2015 Microsoft promised to make these changes much less frequent but AFAIK didn't promise t

COM is based off of the C ABI not C++. This was done specifically because C++ does not have a stable ABI.

For windows that is a very recent change. The ABI used to change with every compiler rev. Further without buyin from the actual standard there’s no gurantee a breaking change won’t be forced by the standard at some point.

Britain had to colonize the Americas or France and Spain would have without them. It would take another 200 years for the empire to fully collapse. It’s hard to say colonization was a net negative just because of America’s independence. Fur

I wonder how good images could be with modern DRAM. A 256MB DDR3 chip would theoretically have over 2 trillion pixels. Light sensitivity should be better too due to the smaller capacitors.
