It's hard. Natural language processing and semantic analysis is a fairly deep field of knowledge. One evidence of its complexity is PowerSet itself. PowerSet launched with just being able to search Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a highly, highl

Not underestimating at all. But it seems like it could be solved. Maybe a hybrid auto/manual tweaking approach is the answer? Or perhaps users could requests songs be converted by the creative team and/or pay for individual tracks? I'm

A fund that's able to raise $85M has probably shown healthy returns to its investors already. VCs are still incentivized to make good deals due to the carry. The problem happens when the size of the fund gets too large and there aren't enou

I've always felt there is a huge, untapped gold mine waiting in these games: the ability to upload your own songs and have them automatically converted to playable tracks in the game. Of course, this relies on two things: 1. Automatic conve

I've always been intrigued by the P vs. NP problem. If I had to bet, I'd say P != NP, but imagining a world where P = NP is like imagining a world where a Star Trek-like utopia is suddenly achievable. It definitely would make the Internet

It is Plura, and while you can technically get paid for it, it's not really worth it for an individual. However, if you can bring hundreds or thousands of computers to the grid by embedding it in an application, then the payments can be si

Disclaimer: I work for the company that develops the grid technology Digsby's using, so I suppose I have some bias. I think Digsby has recognized user's feelings on this issue and their latest update addresses these feelings directly. The

I don't know how much you've distributed this, but it seems like your data will be biased toward companies interested in these programs. There are several (I'm guessing most) companies that don't go to "seed accelerators" for seed money.

PayPal should work on improving their documentation for their developer API before they push out new features. We went with Google Checkout just because the documentation was so much better.

Right now we crawl again for each user, but as we scale up we're going to start doing some caching and providing data streams.

Yep - that's exactly it. Setting up the infrastructure to handle large, web-scale content analysis is the real challenge. (Shameless plug alert) That's why we setup 80legs: to help everyone not called Google/Yahoo/Microsoft to have compar

IDEO is actually very famous in the product design world. You've probably used more IDEO-designed products than you realize. They are a case study (literally) in creating a creative-productive work culture.

I would strongly consider the licensing or acquisition. Couple reasons for this: 1. Compelling products tend to have willing buyers. If you saw a 20x increase in your user base when it became free, it sounds like people really like the pr
