This is a side project of mine arising from my frustration that existing eBook readers for Linux are ugly as sin. It's not yet fully-featured, but it has enough functionality that I have switched to it as my default reader. Feedback an

Google still is! Progressive web apps now have the ability to be installed "natively" on Android devices [0], meaning they show up in the app drawer like any other app rather than being limited to a home screen icon. I think these

Totally agree with this. The concerning part for me is that ML is about making a "best guess" given some data. This means that your tests may pass one time and fail another - inconsistent tests aren't tests at all.

Ah understood. In that case, I'll echo the comments below - I would choose SQLite to preserve data relationships with automated dumps to plain text (maybe JSON? Something parseable, anyway), since I can't imagine utf8-encoded text

> Facial recognition software can only recognize you if your face is already in the database and identified as you. Right, which is exactly what would happen if law enforcement/governments could access FB's database.

Your real problem isn't the data format, it's the host machine - you need to be sure that the computer where your files live is still around/working in 30 years. Either make frequent backups to multiple machines, or choose a

That's true. An alternative could simply be hosting on multiple platforms - at least that way you'll have a backup plan if a service deletes your content.

Gotcha. I'll have to look up some docs on that, sounds useful.

These days, I'd be willing to bet that "ordinary street surveillance" uses facial recognition algorithms. It wouldn't be as effective as FB's, because FB has an enormous stream of training data coming in all the tim

I was responding to the evidence cited in the article - to be honest, I didn't investigate it too carefully. My statement is probably premature.

This is the problem with using any privately-owned server as your primary vehicle for hosting your content. By all means, post your videos to YouTube - but please, host secondary copies yourself, especially now that government censorship se

Agreed. "Satan's Daughter" had different priorities than the author, but nothing in the reprinted conversations suggested she had any malicious intent. In fact, I can understand why she accused the author of being paranoid.

'xclip -selection clipboard' works fine for this use case. [Edit] Assuming you have SSH configured to forward to your local X server [0]. [0] http://unix.stackexchange.com/a/16697

Have you built a SaaS? I mean this genuinely, not as a jab - it seems like many commenters here who have built a SaaS agree that it was life changing and/or gave them a sense of meaning, so I'm interested in hearing other viewpoin

If the only reason you hate Chrome is being locked into the UI, you should switch to Vivaldi. Sure, it's a Chrome clone, but the UI is super configurable (and as far as I'm aware, it doesn't do any opt-out user tracking).
