Note that those are specifically the "Egyptological" names. Ancient Egyptian did not write vowels, but it did write several semi-vowels. So those semi-vowels are transcribed as vowels, and the vowel "e" fills in as nec

Larger companies can do this with virtual machines in their own datacenters, which cuts down a lot on the cost. Especially for developer machines, which have relatively high requirements on memory.

The problem is that it's not just a base utility layer being shared. It's the entire web-standards stack. Which means that Google would now have pretty much free reign to push the standards wherever they wanted, because if it&#x

I agree with you. I did intend for that as a thought experiment, but I didn't make that clear. However, the part about teaching the need before the material and leaving time for exploration I'm very serious about. I think it&#x

The forced cadence of certain topics actually does have a part to play. Imagine if you could have skipped all those English classes back then. Guess what? You would be learning it all right now! Just like you're _re_learning it rig

I think for recipes specifically it started with the fact that a recipe cannot be copyrighted, but that flavor text around a recipe can. This is why recipe books do the same thing.

I'm confused by your response. Is your core business mapping objects to databases? As in, that's what you get paid for? If not, my heuristic is that you should not be writing an ORM tool.

I agree with this statement also. By writing code to do JSON parsing, JSON parsing is now part of your business.

My rule is, don't use a dependency to implement your core business. Is JSON parsing our core business? No, so why would we ever write -- and thereby commit to supporting for its entire lifetime -- JSON parsing code? All the code you

Agreed. A rich, independently-wealthy asshole. But there's also a difference between my moral judgements and my preparations. I can hope someone won't be an asshole, but I will prepare for it.

Yea sorry that's bullshit. I certainly don't need the stress of a job in my life if I have other options. I don't care how much I like my job, it's still a job and the only reason I'm doing it is to make money. O

It's a common functional thing. I know F# has both `|>` and `<|` to go both directions. It also has `||>` and `|||>` variants which take two- or three-value tuples and spread them to arguments. https://docs.mic
