Another possible solution is to do without said service, and realize that there are other alternatives that won't sell your personal information. I've dumped Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google (with the exception of Reader, and occasio

I don't think it's fair to attribute all of the recent Apple products to Cook. Most of those products, if not all, were probably well into the design and/or testing phase by the time Cook took over. In another 12-18 months, I think we can t

Hopefully this deal will also include more recent films like the Pixar movies, Tangled, etc. There's little that's more frustrating that having your kids scratch up their movies, rendering them unwatchable. Fortunately, I've made iTunes cop

I don't remember which version I started on, but remember a friend showed me one of the Phoenix betas. I had been using Netscape, and then the Mozilla suite, but I was blown away by what I saw. Ever since then, in some form or another I've

Additionally, a blog post a good resource/ starting point for others who are looking to accomplish something similar. I've heard of many of these tools before, but not all of them, so it's good reference material for me.

Yes, but the productivity gains from not having to buy TP but once a year would more than be offset by the additional time spend on the can.

I'm another would-be Pro user if they had a smaller/cheaper account but for different reasons. I have the free account with only 9.25 GB of space, and I use less than 1GB. So it's definitely not a space issue. I want to support services I l

Michael Brady, commenting on the original article, said it best. "Master keys are a convenience, not a security measure."

Nothing is stopping anyone from writing an iTunes syncing client though. Apple has an approved method for syncing playlists and songs (though not the DRMed videos). DoubleTwist has been doing it for years. Palm got screwed over because they

My 2-year old wakes us up between 6:15 and 7:30 every day, so he's not reliable. I think I'm going to need a better alarm clock. Unfortunately, the later he goes to bed, the earlier he wakes up. How messed up is that?

I'm fortunate enough to live in an area with pretty good coverage by the new Maps. I'm also savvy enough to point out errors, as I'm sure most people on HN and other various tech sites are. I'm not saying that it isn't a big stumble for App

Agreed. People keep comparing the device to the Nokia 920, but nobody has had some good hands-on time with either device. NFC might be a nice feature to have, but there's very little infrastructure in place to support it. Wireless charging

I'm inclined to agree. It looks like this is the same "hack" detailed last week, though through a terminal command instead of an application. As we learned last week, by default, OS X is set to never lock the keychain once it is logged in.

Apparently I have a Bacon Number of 4. I dated a girl who was an extra in "Footloose" (2011 remake), with Dennis Quaid, who was in "The Right Stuff" with Fred Ward, who was in "Tremors" with Mr. Bacon. Neat.

I don't see how you can say that there's no difference between the 3GS and the 5. As you said, there may be no compelling reason for you to upgrade, but to say that they are "the same" is simply untrue. As a 4S user (having also owned the 3

I can understand patenting a technology for identifying these genes, but the genes themselves? This is ridiculous. Isn't there a way for someone to identify prior art and have the patent voided?

There's another half of this argument though, and that is the people who complain that an app cost's $0.99, saying instead that it should be free. No one is standing outside of Starbucks protesting that the coffee should be free. Most times
