I think the difference here is that I don't see education and internalising costs as protecting us from ourselves in the sense given by the OP (that even knowing perfectly the costs, we humans will still make the wrong decision and so

According to the issues trackers, various forms of "self-hosting would be more work for a lesser product". I'm not sure that would still be the case if the decision were being made today, and would quietly hope not , but I g

If true, what a nasty position to be in. Unwanted and unhappy, but can't leave. I wonder if this might make some otherwise "approved candidates" think twice.

The reach for hyperbole isn't really warranted. At the moment the IRS brings in $5.2 for every $1 spent, that's $3.2 of extra revenue per $1. But their budget is being cut. We don't need to reach to see that wherever the line

Sorry, I'm not quite sure if you're in agreement or not. The claim was that humans need to be protected from themselves (in the context of the GP comment, this would mean a ban). I meant to imply that since smoking rates declined

If this is true (and from his resignation, it would seem that way), this is very refreshing news. There are horrible examples throughout history (Argentina in the '70s, where German automakers volunteered their left-leaning employees)

I'm not sure how you explain the fall in cigarette smoking rates from the 80s until the present day, despite a lack of prohibition. I'm not a smoker, but man did this comment send a chill down my spine.

While not a ban, alco-pop taxes are indeed a thing. They apply to flavoured alcoholic beverages which usually appeal more to young people. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcopop

Is this how these things are usually calculated? Does a watch manufacturer say that there are approximately 255 million left arms which we can reach by post, and since our watches sell for $1000 that's a $255B opportunity?
