Right, though some people really do reach for heavy-weight tools on datasets that are way too small to justify their use. But yeah, even ripgrep should get out-performed by any db/search daemon with a decent index.

I've never heard of the term "deadware," especially not applied to an active project. That being said the custom (non-commercial) license can't be helping adoption!

I think the broader point here is not having control over something you bought. Like why not give the user the choice to opt out of telemetry or even non-essential auto-updates (like Debian)?
