I still don't follow. As market rent goes up you will be renting to yourself below market rate. Suppose market rent is $2000/month and my mortgage is $2000/month. In 10 years market rate rent has gone up, but my mortgage is s

I'm not forgetting. I have to live somewhere. If I pay rent somewhere else I'm paying market rent. That is the gp's point.

You miss something important: If you finance a house on a fixed rate mortgage you lock in your monthly cost. Market rents will continue to rise, the value of your property will continue rise, but your cost will not change (modulo increases

A timestamp is sensible if reproducibility isn't your goal, and exact reproducibility of build artifacts was never a goal on any of my projects. It was simply never a priority.

Every significant project I've worked on embedded the build host and build time in the resulting executable or firmware image. This was along with other static build information, like version number, compiler version and build flags. O

I didn't spell everything out. I never suggested you store the electricity in batteries. The electric heater would be used to heat some mass, like a tank of water or bricks. I look at this impeller and I see a custom mechanical design,

This impeller design is clever, but it seems that a DC generator and a resistive load would be an easier way to brake the windmill and generate heat. The first advantage is off-the-shelf parts. Electric generators and resistive loading are

Yes, and then the model will give you some result, but you will never know if you are accurately accounting for reality in all its complexity. The more complex your model, the less likely you are to match reality precisely. To quote a clich

Customs in the US is a two-tier experience: with Global Entry (which isn't that expensive or hard to get) you just glide through, even at SFO.

My doctor did leave the PD off the prescription, but I just called the office and asked for it. To their credit, they looked it up for me in their records.

TLDR: Old Thinkpads are powerful and rugged, but the screens are terrible. A wistful story: I used a Thinkpad X201 (2010 model) as my primary laptop for 6 years. I called it "lappy" (yes, a homestar runner reference). That thing t
