Yeah- as a long time modular synth user I practically drool over stuff like this. But for the money I can just get more synth modules.

Think of it in a streaming/functional way. Programming would be about signal flow, components that transform, and you get a continuous output.

Yes, I am down with this. What a great day on Hacker News. A long time ago, back when I had a neo-no-wave group and worked as a recording engineer, we hooked up with a number of NYC folks- Friendly Bears, Toby Driver/Kayo Dot, Colin Ma

One of the members is from Pyrrhon, which I've been a fan of for a long time. Legit. This is on my wishlist now.

I do something similar to this too- sometimes making 2-4 scenes and pasting some basic form in the arrangement. From there, I see it the way a sculptor might see a slab of rock, and start “carving out” the song.

Maybe amateurs… Professionals tend to keep a stable system running for as long as possible. The first studio I worked in had a B room that was running OS 9 at a point where OS X had been out for 7 years. My current setup at home is a 2010 M

I am going hiking in New Mexico next week. I am taking the train there. After looking at the excellent public transportation in the Santa Fe area, I decided to make the whole vacation car-free. I’m from Kansas City, and public transportatio

That setup is using an Apogee Duet Firewire. I had an original digidesign mbox (USB 1!) hooked up to the Mini before that. The original Duet stopped getting driver updates a few years back. For a while, apogee had a trade-in deal if you sen

Interesting- I'd much rather pay the perpetual fee. At home, I run a 13 year old Mac Mini in my studio. Everything DAW related on it still works, and it's all compatible with each other. This is quite common in many studios I'

When I bought my house, about 7 years ago, it came with a Nest thermostat. I have never hooked it up to the internet. It works quite well that way.

Huh, that’s interesting. My fellow scholars and myself found it rather challenging. Basically all students who were not piano players took 4 semesters (keyboard I II III IV), where IV prepared you for the exam. All of us could play in a lot

I don’t understand how it’s inevitable that projects using this package will become garbage when the codebase grows. It looks like reasonable patterns could be built around it. Am I missing something?

I used to always stand up to wipe. At one point in my adult life, there was a conversation and I realized everyone else does not do this. Then I tried wiping while sitting down. So much easier.

I still have all my work auth stuff on my phone. If I really wanted to take it farther, I could put in a request for a company-owned smart phone that I could keep by my desk for just that purpose.

This might be wise advice. I have spent a lot on gear, and I buy bags that are typically around $30/lb, although there are some great blends that can be picked up for around $15/lb. It has ruined the cheap (Robusta) coffee for me.
