I have about 120 paying restaurant customers, and I couldn't agree more about the PDF menu. You could give them the slickest, easiest interface in the world, and they'll never use it. They don't have time. The PDF menu already looks good

I definitely agree with what you're saying at the beginning, but I'm not so sure about the end. I think there is some value in putting humans in space. It certainly seems many scientific discoveries are made by a scientist observing or exp

I think it's kind of surprising how low the number is. Almost certainly because space exploration is underfunded. Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of talk about the NASA budget, and there are a couple of things I think many pe

This seems to be a really clever hack. By increasing supply as the market is adjusting back down, it should force the market to adjust down even faster, potentially costing speculators substantially. This risk should reduce future specula

And how many drives do you have, and how long have you had them? In the last 15 years I've probably had 20 HDD's fail out of 150 total. There was a particularly bad period where I was dealing with about 15 Dell laptops with 1.8" HDD's. M

The warranty is five years. I won't lose any data, and in two years I'll get a new drive from the manufacturer. I don't expect any reliability, hard drives aren't reliable, this is nothing new. The Crystal Disk Reports is based on the fla

I've had a 256GB Crucial SSD running for a year without issue. I wrote about it at http://littlebitofcode.com/2011/03/02/a-year-with-a-ssd . I'm not concerned by failure rates because I have an excellent backup strategy. I've had dozens

I think it's a certainty that it's a feature in the pipeline. The only question is when it will happen, which is really a function of performance and memory usage. I suspect this is a big step forward.

I don't think that makes much difference, as long as it's performed at compile time.

I think this is actually a bigger deal from a developers perspective than most of the other announcements. Since it's a compiler feature, does anyone know if it's compatible with older os releases? Once you're familiar with the manual memo

I was thinking exactly this. As I recall modern tactics call for suppressing fire to pin the enemy down while friendlies maneuver. It would seem that static and maneuver warfare are intertwined. Additionally, I believe the rule of thumb

I wrote about this a couple of times. I use a service called Shoeboxed ( http://littlebitofcode.com/2011/05/05/netflix-for-documents ) that will scan your receipts and documents for $20/month. Works like Netflix, they send you envelopes,

I'm kind of surprised at the free-fall once it got below 5%. At this rate, in 3 months less than 1% of traffic will be IE6, so it should be finally safe to drop.
