I see APIs as a less extreme version of DSLs (in that they share a common language, while building a DSL frees you from almost any restriction), but I honestly don't have enough experience building APIs or DSLs to give you a satisfying answ

I couldn't agree more. As much as I like languages that facilitate DSLs, this is an unrealistic view of software development. To add to what you wrote, you have to also consider that all developers in one team have to agree on a common DSL

This is just an appeal to worse fallacy. Just because others have it bad doesn't mean we shouldn't improve our own situation.

I have no inside knowledge and I speak only as a research student working on search engines, but my guess would be that Facebook and Twitter don't allow their pages to be crawled[1]. If I recall MS had to strike a deal with both of them so

I mainly click. I would love to alt-tab but I can't seem to internalize the way it works, which means that I usually alt-tab a dozen times like an idiot to pick the application I actually want.

While I like the idea of tabule, I think not targeting Android in education oriented apps is a mistake. A lot of students don't necessarily have enough money to shell out for an iPhone, while cheap Android phones are everywhere (at least th

I've seen a lot of people in academia be guilty of an even more vicious form of "entrapment": delayed entrapment, where they lure you into saying everything is ok and let you dig your own grave, then come back a month later to bury you in i

Something that the author omitted is that one of the reasons for such a tax is to regularize the way companies work with user-generated data. Companies with very strong transparency, good privacy policy and where user data can be accessed b

At least a sales pitch tries to sell you something real (usually), which is still better than the crockpot pseudoscience bollocks I've seen in other TEDx. These do much more damage to the TED brand in my opinion.
