Microsoft makes decisions like this ALL the time, ones that 1) appear ridiculous to the casual observer; 2) turn out to actually be rational if you think very hard about it and have enough background information (which is almost never avail

From what I've seen, not really. GitHub.app saves you from needing to know what staging, push, pull, fetch are. If you're already productive with Tower then I think going to GitHub.app would be like putting the training wheels back on.

I was thinking the same thing. This problem seems extremely well suited for C/C++, and C#/.NET makes it very easy to call directly into native libraries.

Thanks for the info. Is there a setting for max number of simultaneous instances? If your app gets slashdotted are your potential costs completely unbounded? (Just out of curiosity, I'm not a GAE customer)

But it's 880 instance-hours per day. So assuming that "el-cheapo" dedicated box has similar performance characteristics to one GAE instance, then you'd need 37 of those boxes. My question is why the heck 31.42 CPU hours turned into 880 fr

Have you seen PowerShell? It has only shipped with the OS starting with Windows 7, but it's a surprisingly powerful shell--in some ways it looks way more powerful (and complicated) than bash and the like.

The R language ( http://www.r-project.org ) is inherently well suited for auto-vectorizing. There are a couple of packages for GPU-accelerated processing already--currently heavily skewed towards CUDA though. http://cran.r-project.org/web/

When Microsoft shut down Windows Live Spaces they provided direct export to WordPress and strongly encouraged their user base to take advantage--is that close enough? http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_live/b/windowslive/archiv...

I've been using Tower for a few months, GitHub.app for a few minutes. Tower makes a lot of sense if you understand how Git works--it uses the same vocabulary (branches, remotes, fetc/push/pull, etc.) and encourages the same workflow. GitHub

For us, it was never about which approach was more lucrative. We want RStudio to be the de facto IDE for R. How could it be anything but open source?

Thanks! It's HTML/Javascript. (Note that you can use it as a webapp, we couldn't do that with Qt obviously)
