IMO the shadow DOM should be used sparingly and in most cases not at all. You can use web components without the shadow DOM (I've seen them being called "custom elements" then). That's what I do and I'm happy with t

Probably your village is competing with neighbouring villages to some extent, but to the extent that it is not, that is because there is a much larger, centralized entity (the Romanian state) that has a monopoly on violence and which is r

If you're not paying off the principal, you're just renting from the bank without the benefit of having a landlord to fix things. Why bother?

Even if that was the case, miners from outside of China would include the transactions that the Chinese miners don't want to include.

I've rented three different properties (2 flats and now a house) in Germany, in three different cities, and each time it was from an individual owner, not some faceless corporation. I also own a property myself in a different country.

I know people who live in cooperatives and I've explored it for myself as well. You might pay less in a cooperative, but you're expected to be more involved in its internal politics and in keeping things running, so you're li

This is FUD. There is competition between miners and even if some miners for whatever reason don't want to include certain transactions (and how would they even know which transactions they want to exclude?), other miners will, because

It's not some kind of vague consensus, just like it's not some vague consensus that gold coins are worth more than copper coins.

You can buy gas in a depreciating currency and save in something else, like people have been doing with gold for thousands of years.

The real Bitcoin will be the one that the market prefers. Why is Gold coins more valuable than copper coins? Why is the original Bitcoin more valuable than any of its forks?

It won't be the real one, it will be a fork. Not everyone will accept such a change, so the original 21 million version of the network will still exist and will by many be considered the real bitcoin.

The supply of gold on earth is finite. An infinitely growing cryptocurrency presupposes perpetual economic growth, which requires ever increasing population and resource extraction. Maybe that's realistic if we start colonizing Mars an

With Bitcoin, you've had ten years to acquire some, in multiple different ways. It's about as fair as one can hope for while being permissionless and not requiring identification. In the early days Bitcoin was given away for free

It looks to me like Nano will suffer from the free-rider problem. If Nano becomes an established currency, then a grocery chain can just rely on the existing Nano nodes to process its transactions (which will still be free), they don't

There is no such thing as digital cash outside of cryptocurrencies. The money in your bank account is a liability of the bank, it's not cash.

I think the reason why you're getting so many different answers (ponzi, digital-gold, digital-cash, hyperinflation-hedge etc.) is because Bitcoin is not the same as any other money/currency/asset in existence, and people are

I studied in Stellenbosch in 2001 and we still used Oberon then also. Some students later even formed a startup in Technopark that wrote code in Oberon the language IIRC.

I don't need to know what the natural rate would be to know that the current rate is artificially low. Central banks drive down the rates by buying government debt that would otherwise have to be sold to the rest of the market. They&#x

Interesting to see how programmers have turned into "engineers" the last decade or so. Do you have an engineering degree? Used to be that you'd have to be registered as a professional engineer before calling yourself one.

The idea that the state needs to pull levers in order to manage things like inflation and interest rates isn't supported by all economists. It's definitely not supported by the Austrian school.
