Yea, I'm a big fan of mithril.js, but I've moved over to React as my preferred framework primarily for this reason. The fact that the Clojurescript community has embraced it via reagent is a big factor as well.

Yep, I've seen more than a few job postings over the years stating some version of "Must hold a degree from a Top 10 school." Who would want to work with a bunch of elitist jerks, anyway?

GPU switching (NVIDIA Optimus and the like) seems to be a major headache to get working on Linux. My current laptop (XPS 13) only has an integrated GPU, so I ssh into a desktop for running CUDA stuff. But no, haven't tried WSL2, I

I switched from MacOS to Linux years ago. For a developer workstation these days I'd probably either go with Ubuntu LTS or Fedora (my personal choice). Either runs fine on my XPS 13. Note: I really wanted to like WSL, but it just did

I'm a Clojure fan but I'm not sure a modeling and simulation problem such as this is the best use case for it. Sure, you can do it, but it probably wouldn't be my first choice. Last I checked, Aerospace software is still do

Back when I worked on spacecraft simulation we used Ada, and we liked it (no, we didn't).

I agree. Not to mention tweeting seems to carry the highest risk of destroying your career and/or social life of pretty much any other online medium. It probably has something to do with the whole "casual communication" foc

As a "full-stack" developer who started out on the backend and took on front-end work later in my career, I used to build back-to-front. You generally end up with a cleaner, more scalable, and stable solution. That nobody wants.

> I just hope COVID-19 spells the end of open offices Open offices are cheap. Re-configuring office space isn't cheap. So, no. Some places are probably still hot-desking.

I'd been looking for a remote job for a long time before this. Never could get one, I was frequently turned down because I lacked remote work experience. Now that I have remote work experience, everyone else does as well. So... no c

Yea, X Forwarding works fine for home LAN usage, but when I'm away from the house I probably ought to find something better (more performant). Was thinking of setting up VNC, but will have to check out parsec (hadn't heard of it)

The XPS 13 I've found is pretty easy on the battery. However, I did opt for the 1080p screen. My understanding is that the 4k screen (which would be unreadable to my 40 year old eyes in any case) uses significantly more power.

Just built myself a home dev server based around a R9 3900X. Paired it with 64G of RAM, a 1TB NVMe and an RTX 2060, running CentOS 8. Whole build cost me a little under $1400. It sits, headless, in the corner of my office crunching away.

When I started learning/using Clojure, I didn't use the REPL much and kept on working in the traditional way: Write code, compile, test. Repeat until it works. It took some time to break my old habits and start using the REPL. It
