I misinterpreted the title of the article and this post. I thought Leone was making this point about startups. He's not. tl;dr: VC is warfare; venture firms themselves need to be aggressive, nimble, and revolve around small teams to thrive.

How do you do get nginx to preconnect and maintain an appropriate-sized backend pool?

How do you manage the keepalive connection pool? Are you managing this in nginx (via HTTP 1.1 backend support?) or using a different service? We ran a test of this approach using a similar stack in 2010. We had Ireland, Singapore, Sydney ba

Corrected. Poor phrasing on my part. I was suggesting a likely alternative for her would be starting a company, not that Yahoo is anything like a startup.

I'm not talking about money or reputation. The risk I see is time and opportunity. She could spend a maddening four years not moving the needle at Yahoo rather than another company or a startup of her own. Four years of punishing travel, en

Wow. I am speechless. There is probably no better person on earth to light a user- and product-focused fire under Yahoo. But the risk, the risk for her is just stunning. Huge props to her for making the leap from what must be a very comfort

It strikes me odd to consider venture capital a retirement plan. My anecdotal observation is that the age of successful VCs is decreasing. I'm guessing this follows the need to relate to younger technologies and markets. That's not to say t

You're right. I read the article through a public-internet lens -- a difficult bias for me to shake. :) I can definitely see the value for enterprises. I do very much like that the application servers are using the same tools they would if

It's an interesting use of an overlay network but the title of this post is misleading. This is the failover of a private IP behind a virtual network gateway. The failover happens at layer 2 using the same gratuitous ARP you might send to a

I'm generally an April-Fools-in-tech hater, but man, that guy does a great Christopher Walken. I most liked Javascript and MongoDB. Fantastic writing.

There's a disclaimer to this effect, but just to reiterate: there are real companies on this list. Good and Lumos Labs are two that I recognize off the bat.
