This is a welcome article to read this week. I'm in the process of winding down my abortive startup and fielding a lot of questions from confused friends who think I'm just months away from giving them a ride on my yacht. The re

Though not a technology that everyone uses everyday, the pace of progress in something like engine design (and in particular, motorcycles) is undeniable and at this point nigh-frightening. A machine that would have beaten $1M+ factory prot

I've been taken aback in the Bitcoin world just how many programmers do not understand double-entry accounting and don't implement anything near it in their systems when they do any transaction that is not recorded on the blockcha

Well, we do a lot of work outside of what our commits show, but that sort of thing would be useful to at least form an estimate. But if you are in the position of the employee claiming that you worked say 50 hours a week for two years, it

California law makes it a lot harder to exempt programmers via this route - roughly speaking if you're a salaried programmer in CA making less than $85k a year you are actually NOT exempt from overtime. I know of a lot of startups tha

The really long tutorials are for options contracts which we are not offering to general users until there's some more regulatory clarity in the US. I am trying to adapt them to the forwards right now. If you unclick "Zero Cost&q

The contracts are 60-minute forwards; you are agreeing to buy/sell Bitcoin at the current price (determined by the CoinDesk BPI) but 60 minutes from now. At that time the Bitcoin is transferred from the seller to the buyer, and the st

This trickles down to the grad students and their relationship with their advisors. The deal we were given was: "publish three papers and you get your PhD". This creates some really perverse incentives on both sides.

I introduced this to my friends and it proved very popular at first and then . . . very controversial. If you've played with 9-10 players several times you know how insanely difficult it is for the Resistance to actually win. But one
