I read an article that did the math on the SF housing issue (it’s killing me that I can’t find it, but it was on HN). It’s actually physically impossible to build housing at the rate that SF is growing. Even if you got rid of the politics.

What’s also cool is that oceans sequester carbon in seaweed the same way forests sequester it in trees. So it’s a win-win to farm seaweed!

The US (and by greater extent, the western world) praises individualism - “do it yourself or it won’t get done right” is a common theme. I think this is a driving force behind overwork.

This would only work in an unregulated market. Thankfully, most of the countries around the world do not take kindly to one company owning entire households and will take steps to prevent this from happening.

Currently rewriting an app from AngularJS to Angular 7. Biggest pain point is doing stuff outside of the angular framework. Interacting with the browser’s History API is annoying, angular splits this functionality over a few disparate modul

He didn’t say it would attract all men, he said he would attract a lot of men. That’s not stereotyping. Strip clubs attract a lot of men, but not all men like strip clubs.

Hooters isn’t in business because of the quality of their food. They pioneered an entire genre of restaurants called “breastaurants” where this is the case - you pay premium prices not for the food but for the boobs.

Trending has connotations of acceptance. When wearing jeans is trending, for example, it might mean that jeans are “good” and “acceptable” to wear. The “trending” you’re referring to would be better described as “high traffic”. There’s a hu

You can attach weapons and AI to anything, it’s not a reason to stop progress. Morality has kept nuclear weapons in check (so far anyways), I’m sure it will keep AI drones in check too.

There are two outcomes to this: 1, where quality executives say "fuck this" and the only people who hold the roles are fall men for invisible puppet masters. or 2, the role is split up over a bunch of departments so nobody can be

Just for context, google has 85,000 employees. They fired 0.0005% due to sexual harrassment. I wouldn’t call that a sexual harrassment problem, that’s just humanity, shit is going to happen at that scale.

You sell them quality. Mods are shit quality, across the board. They’re full of broken English, half baked assets, and tons of bugs. Sure, fun can be had, but when it comes to my wallet, I want quality attached to fun.

The price drop is probably because your fridge is built in China or Mexico instead of a neighboring city. That, and it’s made with more plastic. Compare the weight of an old fridge to a new one and you can see where the savings came from.
