Funny, the same confusion exists in French "concurrence" can mean either "concurrency" or "competition". Here the meaning one aimed for was indeed "competition".

Someone should port all that C++ code (there's not that much of it, really) to Java, that would make it a lot easier to compile, wouldn't it?

Not to be (too) pedantic about it, but St Barts and St Martin are not overseas departments of France. They used to be part of the Guadeloupe overseas department, but seceded to be a "collectivite d'outremer" (overseas collect

I think you mean "casually", not "causally" (even though it's kind the interesting Freudian slip, IMHO).

if your cache line is 75% zeroes, then half of it respects the objective of "should contain 50% of each bit", and the other half is all zeroes, which is a waste (according to this objective)... in other words, only half the cache

As I commented there: http://garrett.damore.org/2014/09/modernizing-less.html what's worse is that BSS and data pages are faulted in, so just to startup the OS has to page in multiple times, just to read

Actually, CATIA V4 was never ported to Windows. The next version CATIA V5 (and now V6) had Windows as one of its supported platforms.

Heh, my 1st commandment of multithreaded programming is: share as little as possible, isolate data in each thread and hand-off ownership between threads. With this, you will need only very little synchronization (only for queues), and you w

one easy way to slow down compiles on Windows is to include windows.h everywhere, this pulls down about 2 Mb of declarations that the cpp front-end has to parse just to reach in the internal guards... it all depends on how large your header

yes, and that's using the Pimpl idiom to decouple things can improve build times. If your whole codebase rebuilds everytime a header is touched, then your headers are probably not correctly organized. Having minimal headers (using forwards

even with internal include guards, just the time to read through (and skip) the whole files for later inclusions can become dominant in cpp processing time (i.e. it's mostly waiting on I/O reading the same headers many times over). That's w
