from "creative writing" to AI (industry or academia) sounds like such a wide gap, I did not think such a jump would be possible... congrats!

cache invalidation is not hard indeed, but people always forget about it (so caches aren't caches aanymore, they become stale copies of things...). People tend to forget that a cache has to have a fixed size and an eviction policy.

watch out, if you spend more time in France than in any other country (not just 183 days per year), then you will be considered a fiscal resident of France and therefore taxable on income. in addition, you can't really work remotely an

Oh I wasn't thinking of selfishness in this situation (I didn't use that word, but i was thinking of how purely rational economic actors would act), merely that there is a subconscious incentive to act one way. Of course you are r

isn't this what's happening at FANG companies: the gatekeepers (i.e. people giving interviews) have an incentive to not let people in too easily? This limits the pool of employees, and since what's rare is expensive, makes in

From your 3 points, I can tell that there are bad programmers in there, and it sounds like it's not you... if they cannot improve, you need to move on.

not necessarily, there's nothing that says that old content is preserved in inaccessible streams... the entire PDF file can be re-written discarding all old content.

This seems true in 99% of cases, but it seems the rule is not quite as simple. "If you are an American citizen, you must enter the US on a US passport" is true for air travel. If you travel by land or sea, it is possible to enter

There are some engineering management (quite the oxymoron...) degrees, see https://www.mempc.org/engineering-management-programs/ (full disclosure, I attended one such program also I did not slip onto the dark side!).

could it be that the author's first language is not English? "pixelized" sounds like a literal translation of the French word for "pixelated".

thanks for the correction. I thought even with that guarantee, there is no bound on progress (so progress can in fact be very slow). lock-free algorithms are not used much because of the slowness, AFAIK.

lock-free code is free of deadlocks, but it is not free of livelocks and usually there's no guarantee of progress... In mutex-based code, usually you want only open calls (i.e. calls with no mutex held, so you only ever hold one mutex

This rings true to me, people complain they pay too much taxes, but then go on to rely widely on what the state provides and of course will cry in horror if anything is to be taken away. For instance (and I don't necessarily approve th
